Rico Rally – Alpine Adventure

In June 2015 we took a group of 60 cars on our ‘Alpine Adventure’ European Driving Trip through the French and Swiss Alps, covering 2,000 miles around some of the best driving roads that Europe has to offer.

Day 1 was all about soaking up the miles as we headed to Lyon which put us just a couple of hours away from the fun stuff on day 2.

The following day the sun was blazing down as we headed to Mont Ventoux and with crystal clear skies the views from the top were stunning. After descending most people stopped for lunch, splitting into a mix of local cafes and bars, before heading on to the Col de Prémol and Col de Menée. With the baking hot weather impromptu pitstops saw a few dips in the river to cool down.

Day 3 was another warm start but as we headed to the Col de L’Iseran temperatures had plummeted and the snow was coming down. 20 minutes later at the foot of the Col the sun was out once more and the small groups of cars headed like a swarm to the Col de Petit St Bernard and Col du Grand St Bernard. It had been a long day but with our hotel on the side of Lake Geneva everyone relaxed to tell their tales of the day’s driving.

With another early start and the sun shining down the cars splintered as we headed across Switzerland with a mix of the best passes being driven including the Susten, Grimsel, Nufenen, San Bernardino and Klausen. Our hotel provided a much needed rest bite with small waterpark, ten pin bowling, 3 x restaurants and a welcoming bar to relax in.

On day 5 the cars headed to Stuttgart, splitting to either the Porsche or Mercedes museums. After a few hours ogling precious metal, both old and new, it was to the Autobahns for a blast to our final night in Luxembourg. A BBQ was waiting for everyone followed by our customary awards and a few shandies 😉

Blink and you missed it, Rico Rally ‘Alpine Adventure’ was almost over. All that was left was to lift those bleary eyes and head to catch the ferry back to the UK.
