Austria and the Dolomites – Itinerary
Our six-night route takes us from the UK through France and the Black Forest into the Austrian Alps, before heading south into the Italian Dolomites and continuing through Switzerland on the journey home.
Below is the planned day-by-day itinerary, including the passes, overnight stops and highlights along the way.
Day 1: The Journey Begins
We start with the Eurotunnel to France, then make our way southeast towards Reims-Gueux for a short stop at the historic former race circuit.
From there, the route continues through Alsace to Colmar, our first overnight stop.
In the evening, we’ll meet for a group dinner and a relaxed start to the week.
Day 2: First Taste of the Alps
Leaving Colmar, we cross into Germany and travel through the Black Forest, with a lunch stop beside Lake Constance.
From there the roads begin to climb into Austria, taking in Hochtannberg and Hahntennjoch before arriving in Innsbruck.
Our hotel is in the heart of Innsbruck’s old town, where we stay for two nights.

Day 3: The Dolomites
Today we head south into the Italian Dolomites for one of the standout days of the trip.
The route includes sections of the Great Dolomites Road and passes such as Pordoi, Giau, Falzarego and Valparola, before returning to Innsbruck for a second night.
It’s a full day of twisting climbs, sweeping descents and high-mountain driving through the heart of the Dolomites.

Day 4: Across the High Alps
Leaving Innsbruck, we tackle the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road and cross into Italy.
The route continues via Livigno into Switzerland, with the Bernina and Flüela passes taking us towards Davos for the night.
It’s a great cross-border driving day, taking us from the Austrian Alps, through northern Italy and into Switzerland.

Day 5: The Great Swiss Passes
Switzerland takes centre stage today, with San Bernardino, Lukmanier and Oberalp among the passes on the route.
The day brings together a succession of high mountain roads before we head north through Switzerland to St Gallen for our overnight stop.

Day 6: One Final Adventure
Our final full day gives you two very different options.
You can enjoy one more driving route through parts of the Black Forest, or head to Stuttgart to visit either the Mercedes-Benz Museum or Porsche Museum.
Whichever you choose, we regroup in Belgium for our final-night dinner and last evening together.
Day 7: The Road Home
After breakfast we begin the journey home, crossing the Ardennes before continuing to Calais and the Eurotunnel back to the UK.
